In response to restrictions posed by the Coronavirus pandemic, we change our conferences in 2020 into online events. VIRTUAL Presentation (Live Connection|Pre-recorded video | Short films | Powerpoint Presentation | Written Papers) is now the only presentation category while the new fees are set as 30 Euros for presentation, 20 Euros for Students.

CALL FOR PAPERS

 

CINECRI '21 / V. International Film Studies and Cinematic Arts Conference will be held at Nippon Meeting Halls in Istanbul. The conference is coordinated by DAKAM (Eastern Mediterranean Academic Research Center) and will be organized by BILSAS (Science, Art, Sport Productions). Since 2014, more than hundred presentations by scholars from different places of the world has been hosted by DAKAM's CINECRI Conferences and two proceedings books have been published.

All abstracts are going to be selected according to double blind reviews and accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings E-Book with an ISBN numberthat will be sent to after the conference.

Selected papers will be published in DAKAM's International Journal of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. (http://www.dakam.org/ijssis)

 

We invite you to join us at the event in Istanbul and would like to emphasize that proposals from different parts of the world are welcomed.

Nippon Meeting Halls are located in the heart of Taksim, the cultural center of Istanbul and it is easily accessible by metro, taxi or bus. 

LOCATION

You can easily reach Nippon Conference Halls by walking from Taksim Square.

 

Taksim can be regarded one of the most central places in Istanbul.

 

From the airport you can directly reach Taksim by taking the white HAVATAŞ Buses. Taksim

is also easly accessible by many bus lines, yellow minibus lines or two different metro lines.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Levent Yilmazok, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University

Graduated from Middle East Technical University in 1996 with a BSc degree in Management, Levent Yılmazok got a MFA degree in Cinema at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2007. The topic of thesis is “The Factors Underlying the National Character of Turkish Cinema and Audience-Film Relations” (in Turkish). He got his PhD from ASCA (Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis), University of Amsterdam, in 2012.

 

The topic of dissertation is “Eurimages and Turkish Cinema: History, Identity, Culture”. Levent Yılmazok has been making short films, documentaries and partaking in such projects since 2005. His area of academic research consists of Turkish cinema, national cinemas, representation and identities, film history and film language.  
 

Academic Advisor

Prof. Julian Reid, University of Lapland

ulian Reid is a critically acclaimed theorist of International Politics. He is best known for his two books, The Biopolitics of the War on Terror and The Liberal Way of War (co-authored with Michael Dillon). Reid has taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (UK), Sussex University (UK), King's College London (UK), and the University of Lapland (Finland). A prolific scholar, Reid travels widely and lectures on his works around the world.

Assist. Prof. Ahmet Gurata, Bilkent University

Ahmet Gurata joined Bilkent University in 2007 and is currently acting chair of the Department of Communication and Design. He has published research on the history of Turkish cinema, cross-cultural reception, remakes and documentary in anthologies and journals. He serves on the editorial boards of sinecine: journal of film studies and Kebikec.

 

He has served on several film festival juries and is currently an advisor for Festival on Wheels. He is a member of Turkish Association of Documentary Filmmakers and Turkish Film Critics Association. Has won Turkish Academy of Sciences’ Honorable Mention Award for his translation of A Short Guide to Writing About Film (Timothy J.Corrigan) ın 2009.


His research Interests are film history and theory, documentary, visual culture.

Assist. Prof. Gal Kirn, Berlin Humboldt University

Gal Kirn holds a PhD in political philosophy from the University of Nova Gorica. He was a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (2008-2009) and a research fellow at Institute of Cultural Inquiry Berlin (2010-2011).

 

He is a co-editor (with Peter Thomas, Sara Farris and Katja Diefenbach) of the book Encountering Althusser (Bloomsbury, 2012), (with Dubravka Sekulić and Žiga Testen) of the book Yugoslav Black Wave Cinema and its Transgressive Moments (JvE Academie, 2012), and an editor of the book Postfordism and its discontents (JvE Academie, B-Books and Mirovni Inštitut, 2010). In his home-town Ljubljana, he is engaged in the Workers-Punks' University, whereas currently he is a postdoctoral fellow of the Humboldt Foundation (HU, Berlin).

Assist. Prof. Tumay Arslan, Ankara University

Born in 1975, Ankara. Graduated from Middle East Technical University. She has a Phd degree on Cinema-Television Department of Ankara University. She gives lectures at Mimar Sinan University, Sociology Department. She is a member at the editorial board of 'Toplum ve Bilim' Her research interests ar Turkish Cinema and Film Theory.

Assist. Prof. Andrea Meuzelaar, University of Utrecht

She is a lecturer in the University of Utrecht, in the film, tv and theater department. She have finished my PhD in october 2014, Seeing through the archival prism. A history of the representation of muslims on Dutch television. At the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis. During the last ten years she has been teaching in the Media Studies department of the University of Amsterdam.

Dr. Valentina Vitali is Reader in Film at the University of East London. She is the author of Capital and Popular Cinema: The Dollars Are Coming! (MUP 2016), Hindi Action Cinema: Industries, Narratives, Bodies (OUP and Indiana 2008), and the co-editor, with Paul Willemen, of Theorising National Cinema (BFI 2006).

She is a member of the advisory boards of sinecine: journal of film studies and The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Imperialism and Anti-Imperialism, a fellow of the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore, and a founding member of the Moving Image Research Centre, University of East London.
