Graduated from Middle East Technical University in 1996 with a BSc degree in Management, Levent Yılmazok got a MFA degree in Cinema at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2007. The topic of thesis is “The Factors Underlying the National Character of Turkish Cinema and Audience-Film Relations” (in Turkish). He got his PhD from ASCA (Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis), University of Amsterdam, in 2012.

The topic of dissertation is “Eurimages and Turkish Cinema: History, Identity, Culture”. Levent Yılmazok has been making short films, documentaries and partaking in such projects since 2005. His area of academic research consists of Turkish cinema, national cinemas, representation and identities, film history and film language.  
 

Academic Advisor

ulian Reid is a critically acclaimed theorist of International Politics. He is best known for his two books, The Biopolitics of the War on Terror and The Liberal Way of War (co-authored with Michael Dillon). Reid has taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (UK), Sussex University (UK), King's College London (UK), and the University of Lapland (Finland). A prolific scholar, Reid travels widely and lectures on his works around the world.

Ahmet Gurata joined Bilkent University in 2007 and is currently acting chair of the Department of Communication and Design. He has published research on the history of Turkish cinema, cross-cultural reception, remakes and documentary in anthologies and journals. He serves on the editorial boards of sinecine: journal of film studies and Kebikec.

He has served on several film festival juries and is currently an advisor for Festival on Wheels. He is a member of Turkish Association of Documentary Filmmakers and Turkish Film Critics Association. Has won Turkish Academy of Sciences’ Honorable Mention Award for his translation of A Short Guide to Writing About Film (Timothy J.Corrigan) ın 2009.

His research Interests are film history and theory, documentary, visual culture.

Gal Kirn holds a PhD in political philosophy from the University of Nova Gorica. He was a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (2008-2009) and a research fellow at Institute of Cultural Inquiry Berlin (2010-2011).

He is a co-editor (with Peter Thomas, Sara Farris and Katja Diefenbach) of the book Encountering Althusser (Bloomsbury, 2012), (with Dubravka Sekulić and Žiga Testen) of the book Yugoslav Black Wave Cinema and its Transgressive Moments (JvE Academie, 2012), and an editor of the book Postfordism and its discontents (JvE Academie, B-Books and Mirovni Inštitut, 2010). In his home-town Ljubljana, he is engaged in the Workers-Punks' University, whereas currently he is a postdoctoral fellow of the Humboldt Foundation (HU, Berlin).

(MUP 2016), Hindi Action Cinema: Industries, Narratives, Bodies (OUP and Indiana 2008), and the co-editor, with Paul Willemen, of Theorising National Cinema (BFI 2006).

She is a member of the advisory boards of sinecine: journal of film studies and The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Imperialism and Anti-Imperialism, a fellow of the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore, and a founding member of the Moving Image Research Centre, University of East London.
